norwegian

You go to the beach and think about sunsets and tide pools. You assemble a crew, initiate a ring leader, and use a Xerox of a photo of handwritten directions. You look weird at the trail head after taking a pitstop to look cool in and out of the car. You bring your rubber boots and fire starter so you can look at nudibranchs and play on rope swings before you get trapped by the tide. You eat soup. You always pay your respects.

drawing

I used to spend a lot of time drawing. Drawing is a very anaerobic, time consuming, obsessive compulsive, rewarding, and largely domestic activity. I hardly draw anymore. Instead, I choose to spend my time outside experiencing the natural beauty of the world that surrounds me, though I often think about retreating to the quiet life of the indoor arts. Here is a small sample of the people that motivate and inspire me to get out there. If it weren't for you, I would be drawing right now.

Stand on a roof in Port Angeles at dawn and look around, until then and if you never have the chance. Strait of Juan de Fuca on the far left, Hurricane Ridge and the Olympic Mountains on the right.

mogley

Mogley lives with his wife in a cabin on some land just west of Joyce. Often times he can be found at twin river beach picking up rocks, rescuing fossils, and looking for hitches to town. A true ambassador of the beach, all smiles, all the time. Today was his barter day, six pounds of coffee for who knows what.

fridays

Early morning fridays lead to empty roads and empty longboard waves.

winter surf

Surfing Washington in the winter involves many things. Long drives on the 101, checking out big trees, and plenty of ding repair. After consuming a certain amount of glassy waves and ridiculous scenery with your closest friends, the days begin to blur together like forgetting to focus a frame with a rangefinder. It's as good a reason as any to shoot a few photos.
